Long are the days where you need to find a yardage marker and walk off 40 + steps to see your distances. Distance measuring devices are widely accepted out on the course whether that be with:
- Rangefinders
- GPS on your mobile device
- Skycaddie
- GPS watches
- GPS on the golf carts
If you don’t know what a rangefinder is, it is a small, handheld device that you can use to measure distances around the course with the click of a button. But which one do you go with? What’s the best rangefinder?
Why I Chose the Nikon Coolshot?
First off, I’m sure you’ve heard of the company, Nikon right? They make high-quality cameras and have been around for years. With many unknown companies making rangefinders these days, it’s best to go with a trusted and reliable company.

Personally, I don’t think you don’t need these expensive rangefinders that read slope and vibrate when you aim at the flagstick. (Note: rangefinders that read slope are against USGA Rules when playing in tournaments)
The Coolshot is simple, straight to the point and super easy to use. Why complicate things and overpay for a device you are only using to find distance?

How to Use it?
All you have to do once you have the Coolshot is:
- Install the batteries (Should be included but you can always get extra from the link above)
- Turn the lens to zoom in and out
- Use mode button to switch between meters/yards
- Push the power button to turn on and to see distances (remember it will read for 8 seconds)
- Use the crosshairs to line up your target (flagstick, tree, hazard, etc.)
