Many golfers are often confused when trying to decide if that want to play with a 5 wood or 3 hybrid
Answer: Because both clubs have the same loft, it comes down to what area of your golf game you need to strengthen. I have found it best to use a 5 wood off the tee as the fairway wood has a larger sweet spot for my consistency. If you are struggling hitting longer clubs in your bag when in the fairway, I recommend using a 3 hybrid to improve your contact.
Fairway 5 Wood
A 5 wood is generally 19-24 degrees in loft and is a higher lofted fairway wood. (compared to a 3 wood) Compared to a hybrid, a 5 wood has a larger club head which may cause some frustration when first learning to make solid contact hitting out of the fairway. Off the tee however, a 5 wood is very reliable because of its light weight and large sweet spot.
3 Hybrid
A 3 hybrid, like the 5 wood, is generally around 19-24 degrees of loft. The design of a hybrid allows more forgiveness than irons as the club face is larger and has a wider sweet spot for miss-hits. Because of this, many beginning to intermediate golfers elect to use a hybrid clubs instead of having a 3 or 4 iron. So if you are struggling off the tee, I recommend that you try out a hybrid at your local driving range or golf store to see if you can improve your consistency.
